O’Leary’s Clover Farm: A Daniel S. O’Leary Camp For Children With Diabetes

Partnership With Setebaid Services Could Make O’Leary’s Clover Farm A Reality in 2007!!

The Board of Directors have continued to struggle in 2005 with moving our planning process to the next level need to open our doors- establishing the medical program.  During a December meeting with members of the organization Setebaid Services, a solution was found.  O’Leary’s Clover Farm is in the process of joining Setebaid Services as one of their camp programs.  As a program under Setebaid’s umberella, O”Leary’s would join four other established diabetic camps throughout Pennsylvania and New York.  We would benefit from their experience and would gain the much needed medical connections and guidance.  They will provide camp planning services, and when the time comes marketing, advertising, insurance, registration, and human resource programs.

In order to move to the next step we are currently evaluating demographics and planning our Camp Committee.  The Camp Committee is critical to our acceptance into the Setebaid Program.  We are currently looking for volunteers who are willing to serve on this committee for 2006. Please read on for more information.

Camp Committee Forming

Your Help is Needed

As part of the Setebaid Services Program, O’Leary’s Clover Farm will be run by a committee of volunteers who will do the leg work needed to plan for and run the camp.  The committee should consist of medical personnel, teachers, social workers, business men and women, and individuals committed to the camps mission. Ten people are needed to sit on this team that will meet monthly.  Committee members should expect to donate at least 10 hours of volunteer time between monthly meetings.  If you are interested in serving on the committee or have questions about how you can volunteer please contact Cortney Heykoop at 703-395-0860.

Non Profit of the Month

We would like to give a special Thank You to Holly Rozanc for helping to create exposure for the camp. For the last few years, Holly has diligently nominated O’Leary’s Clover Farm as the Kathie Lee Gifford Charity of the Month. We were named as Non Profit of the month in July of 2005. KathieLeeGifford.com does not donate funds directly but draws attention to our organization through national website exposure.

The night started with dinner and music by DJ Gator and the band got started shortly after 9.  The evening also included a Chinese auction featured a weekend get-a-way for a family of four and was sponsored by local businesses: Washington Pharmacy, Echart, Crystal’s Café, Cucuvzabella’s, Four Star, The Employees of Starbucks, Hollywood Theaters, Eat-n-Park, Solomon’s, Garfield’s, King Jewelers, Chuckie Cheese, Amanda’s Expressions, Hollywood Video, Village Green, Mike’s Packing, Union Grill, WJPA, Shorty’s, Observer Reporter, Borne Blonde, and Images By Setto. Lemonade Here!

Young Volunteers Making A Difference

Over the summer two young volunteers helped to make a difference for children with diabetes.  During their summer vacation Will and Kate Avedellas sold lemonade in their Leesburg Virginia neighborhood.  They donated their proceeds to O’Leary’s Clover Farm.    A Special Thank You to this years camp angels.

 Establishing Relationships

O’Leary’s Clover Farm has recently had success with increasing dialogue between local diabetes organizations and medical professionals.  Cortney Heykoop had a very positive meeting in December with the Pittsburgh American Diabetes Association (ADA).  The Pittsburgh ADA operates a residential camp program in Slippery Rock with the support of the Pittsburgh Hospital.  Our meetings have focused on how they have developed their program over the years and has given us a great deal of insight into what works and what challenges we may face.  O’Leary’s Clover Farm has also opened dialogue The Washington Hospital.  It is our hope this conversation may lead to discussions on camp programs from both adults and children with diabetes.
